Prenatal Classes

Childbirth preparation classes are offered in small group settings of three to five women and their partners. Classes run for six weeks, and each class session is 2 1/2 hours long. Small classes ensure your voice and questions will be heard. An out-of-hospital setting means you have the chance to hear a variety of experiences from expectant parents birthing in different locations.

Classes are suitable for those planning to give birth with midwives or doctors, at home or in a hospital.

“We really enjoyed our evenings with you - they always flew by and we never ran out of things to talk about! Thanks for all of the information. We feel that we're going to approach our baby's birth with so much more ease, thanks to you and the tone you set for each of the classes.”

Topics include:

  • stages of labour
  • relaxation techniques
  • labour rehearsal
  • imagining your ideal birth
  • fears and apprehensions
  • recognizing normal
  • interventions
  • breastfeeding
  • welcoming your newborn

Group classes are held in the Beaches area of Toronto, near Victoria Park & Kingston Road.

Upcoming classes:

Six Evenings, 7:00 - 9:30 pm

Thursdays, July 8 - August 12, 2010
Thursdays, October 21 - November 25, 2010
There will be no September class this year.

Classes are $200 per family and include an extensive manual of handouts and articles, as well as access to a lending library of books and dvds. Classes can hold an absolute maximum of 5 women and their partners, so sign up soon!

Can't make a regular class? Enquire about private class curricula and rates. Or, if you have two pregnant friends and a suitable location, I may be able to bring a group class to you.

Below are some other classes I've taught and recommend.

Queer Positive Prenatal Classes through The 519

This class welcomes people of diverse family structures and identities who are expecting a newborn, whether through birth, adoption or surrogacy. Come find out about the stages of birth, creating a birth plan, life after giving birth, understanding newborns, and much more. Partners, co-parents, surrogates and other support people are welcome.

The weekend intensive format means it's easier to attend if you live outside of Toronto. Many families have found it worth travelling for.

The Parenting Partnership

The Parenting Partnership is a new prenatal and parenting program to help moms and dads become a strong parenting team and give their baby the best start in life.

Created by the experts at Invest in Kids.

The program consists of weekly web-based sessions, as well as face-to-face sessions. Face-to-face sessions occur weekly for 7 consecutive weeks during the prenatal portion of the program. After the babies are born, there is a face-to-face session about once a month.
